Guest performance at JOENSUUN CITY THEATRE
My life, Ukraine!
– stories of women who fled the war
“I can’t forget, even though there’s no war here.
The war is in me. It stuck to me, to us. To all of us.
I can’t be here, in peace.”
The stage production by OSIRIS Theatre contains personal stories of Ukrainians in the midst of the Russian war of aggression.
Stories of perseverance, fear, courage, guilt, longing and the search for a good life.
This touching work, produced by a multicultural working group and combining documentary theatre, music, song and dance and video art
also tells how the war affects those who have fled Ukraine and live in Finland.
The performance is understandable in both Ukrainian and Finnish.

Press quotes:
“A strong performance about the everyday life of Ukrainian women – – The OSIRIS Theatre’s performance consists of stories and strong songs by individual people,
mainly women. The performance is made even more touching by the fact that some of the actors are Ukrainian.” Mari Teinilä, Kotimaa-lehti 2024
“The energetic and heart-melting songs are part of the Eastern European singing tradition, from Viennese Karelia to Ukraine and the Balkans. Love, sadness, longing, care and warmth. All the emotions that are part of life. The songs and their stories echoed in the mind long after.”
Pirjo Alapoti, Kumposti-lehti 2024
Audience feedback:
“The format of the performance is like a cornucopia – song, dance, stomping, documentary material and a stage-like illustration that quite ingeniously comments on the performance — How fortunate that this performance has been made. – – But also credit to the OSIRIS theatre, which year after year offers hugely significant social discourses on themes that would otherwise remain in the shadows.”
“My Life, Ukraine performance at Riihimäki Theatre. The fates and stories of women who fled the Russian invasion scratched deep. A fine interweaving of song, dance and language. The performance languages are both Ukrainian and Finnish.”
“A moving, soul-nurturant empathy experience, although also one that contains pain. Somehow joy and pain, sadness and loss and hope leap into each other.”
“The performance was wonderful! Impressive.”
“The script was successful, the two languages are very present, the choice of music and the performance are top-notch.”
